Celebrating Summer and the Strawberry Moon

It was a weekend of meditation, reflection, and renewal. A chance to step back from the clamor of the every day and listen to the inner voice. It was a weekend of community, of women supporting women, of letting go and inviting in under the light of the full moon. This and so much more was “Celebrating the Seasons, a Three Day Retreat.”

I’ve mentioned how much I enjoy planning a retreat. I love choosing the meditations and other practices, engaging other practitioners to share their gifts and deciding on a menu. And it all starts with location.

I was fortunate to find the perfect spot, a private home used as a short-term rental, with a big kitchen and … a pool!!! More than I could have asked for. The outdoor areas were perfect for our tea workshop taught by an herbalist, and later for witnessing the Strawberry Moon and creating ritual around her beauty.

The full moon is a time of letting go, and the ritual reflected that. Not only did we see her rise over the trees in the evening, but the next morning we awoke (very) early to see her descend into the horizon, as we greeted the day with a little sun salutation yoga.

Day two was set aside for welcoming in summer. While we had lots of time to relax and get in some pool time during the day, the evening brought a full celebration. We began the celebration with a powerful sound bowl meditation, followed by a henna artist who created art on our hands and arms, a visual reminder of our time together. The day ended with popcorn and one of my favorite movies, My Octopus Teacher.

And then, before I knew it, it was time for closing ceremony and expressing what this weekend meant to each of us.

In between it all we shared meals and laughter and tears and ourselves. And that is my favorite part of retreat, spending time with these beautiful women, deep, meaningful time. I have found nothing else like it and I am thankful for the gifts of retreat.
