When life is complicated, when it’s loud and obnoxious, I tend to get overwhelmed easily. I thrive in a simple, quiet, harmonious environment. The trick to finding the peace amid the chaos, is to create my own harmony and simplicity. Because I’m not in control over everything going on in the outside world. It’s all inside work.
And so I find joy in simple pleasures.
A walk on the beach or in the forest.
A perfectly prepared meal.
A great book.
Daily sunset viewing.
Time with family.
Long talks with distant friends.
Learning new animal facts.
My weekly treasures.
I integrate all this in to my life because they bring me joy.
Because they bring me peace.
Because they are simple pleasures.
Creating your own sense of peace and simplicity can be as easy as discovering the things that bring you joy. What are the things that make your heart sing? Looking at my list, clearly being in nature and being in relationship to loved ones brings me joy. And so I bring more of that into my life.
If you’re not clear on your own motivators for joy, don’t be afraid to try new things. Step out of your comfort zone and investigate the world around you. Take a cooking class, join a book club, volunteer, create art. Explore all your different and simple options and introduce more of those that speak to you, into your world.
Your life is full of everyday beautiful moments. Take time to notice those beautiful moments, to smell those roses and watch a sunset. Be grateful for all that surrounds you. Focus on the good. Appreciate the simple pleasures in life.
