Here we are at the beginning of December. This can be a stressful time for some, and even if you don’t celebrate a holiday at this time of year, all the activities going on around you can be overwhelming. Here’s a reminder of ways to keep centered when you get caught up in the whirlwind.
Renew your relationship with something that is important to you.
Tend to something or someone that you sometimes neglect or take for granted. Whether that’s a relationship, your home or other possession, nature or yourself, we oftentimes forget about those most precious parts of our lives that give us purpose and bring us happiness. By spending time and taking care, you are gifting yourself and the other.
Stay healthy.
This is a tough time of year to keep up any kind of exercise routine and the abundance of holiday goodies and get togethers can be ever so tempting. Just be sure to continue to move – it’s a beautiful time of year to be outside – and be conscious of what you eat. You don’t need to deny yourself the sweet stuff, just moderate and eat it mindfully – you’ll enjoy it more. Be sure to go easy on the adult beverages, and continue to take any supplements that are in your plan.
Keep your routine.
I have a very specific routine to start my day, even when I’m away from home. I find it makes the whole day go smoothly. You may have to make some concessions and adjustments, so get creative. For instance if you usually go to a yoga class first thing in the morning, enjoy one of the many on line yoga teachers instead.
Work in some “down time.”
That means not over-booking or over-committing yourself. Work in time for a little self-care like a nice hot bath, or wrapping yourself in a soft blanket and enjoying a cup of tea and a good book by the fire.
Simplify
Make simple meals, don’t start any complicated tasks, know when enough is enough. Sometimes less, is more.
And with that, enough.
